Keep Your Heating Oil Tank Full: Why It’s So Important

keep oil tank full new york

This especially applies right now in the summer!

We hope that your summer is full of great things to do.

But we’d like you to take a few moments from the sun and fun of a summer in the Hudson Valley and Catskills regions to get your heating oil tank filled by Resnick Energy.

We have two very good reasons why.

A full tank is a protected tank

There’s a very good reason to keep your tank at least half-full during the warmer months.

The reason is condensation, which forms in the empty space in your heating oil tank. The hot days and cool nights of this time of year allow condensation buildup to accelerate inside your tank. Aboveground tanks that are outdoors and in an unshaded area are most vulnerable to condensation.

Condensation occurs when water forms on the bare walls on the empty part of your heating oil tank. Water is more dense than the fuel oil in your tank. When condensation develops, it will drip down and sink to the bottom of the tank, where it creates the perfect environment for the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms. Those eventually become sediment that can create problems with your heating oil tank.

Sediment can enter your fuel lines and clog them up, causing your heating system to shut down. Sediment can also lead to corrosion of your heating oil tank. That corrosion can lead to tank failure, and the hassle and expense of cleaning up the leaked oil and replacing your tank.

A full tank puts you ahead of the weather

If you’ve lived in this area for any length of time, you know that cold snaps can happen early in the fall. When you fill your heating oil tank now, in the summer, you’re ready no matter when the mercury drops!

You won’t have to worry about whether your tank has enough heating oil left over from last winter to get you through, or that you may have to schedule an emergency delivery.

And because you’re having your heating oil tank filled now, you’re doing ahead of almost everyone else! That means you can schedule your delivery for when it’s convenient for you.
