Are you noticing problems with your furnace? Our team is here to help!

Although furnace’s typically have a lifespan of 15-20 years, it’s common to run into problems with your heating system. Scheduling yearly routine maintenance checks can prolong its lifespan and keep it running in tip-top shape! If you’re experiencing any of the issues below, we recommend calling one of our professionals at (845) 794-6666. We are here to help!

1. Clogged filter
A dirty filter can prevent your furnace from running efficiently. It reduces airflow, which hinders your system’s performance. It can cause your furnace to work in overdrive, which will also increase your electricity bill. We recommend replacing these filters every 90 days.

2. Wear and tear
Overtime, it’s natural for your furnace to become run down. Wear and tear can lead to bigger issues such as airflow and heat-control problems. A yearly routine maintenance check can slow down this process.

3. Unlit pilot light
A pilot light is a small flame that ignites gas to turn on the furnace. If this is unlit, you may need to reboot your heating system or call a professional for a checkup. We recommend following your furnace’s owner’s manual to resolve this issue.

4. Lack of heat
If you notice that your furnace produces no heat, there could be a problem with your thermostat, gas or pilot light. If your furnace doesn’t heat enough, it may be too small for the space. If this is the case, you may need to purchase one that’s better suited for a larger area.

5. Strange noises
If you hear a loud screeching, banging or rattling noise from your system, there could be mechanical issues or a disruption to the airflow. In this case, we recommend calling a professional right away.

Plan Ahead! Why You Should Order Heating Oil This Spring

We Can Help You Stay Ahead of the Game

Spring time is officially here! Which hopefully means warmer days are upon us. Here in New York, we know that spring weather can be a bit unpredictable. While it may be sunny and 65 degrees one day, it’s possible to get frigid temperatures the next. Planning ahead for warmer weather can be extremely beneficial for your heating oil system. Here are some key reasons to order heating oil this spring:
1. Protect Your Oil Tank
During the transition from cold to warmer weather, heating oil tanks may naturally build up condensation. Due to varying extremes in temperature, this excess moisture can degrade the metal inside your tank; causing corrosion. We recommend filling up your oil tanks this spring to eliminate any excess room for moisture and rust to form. Being proactive will save you the risk of having to repair or replace your tank!

2. Cold Nights
While temperatures are rising during spring time, there’s no doubt you will experience some very cold nights! Filling up your heating oil tank will give you peace of mind that you and your family can be warm and comfortable until summer hits.

3. Take Advantage of Our Budget Plan!
The budget plan at Resnick Energy can help you stay on top of your heating oil schedule and will allow you to order oil consistently, even during spring and summer months. Instead of paying the bulk of your heating bills over a few months, we take your average annual fuel use and spread the cost over 12 even payments. This will give you peace of mind as we transition to warmer weather.

4. Easy Online Ordering
Ordering heating oil online is another easy way to ensure you and your family stay warm during spring nights. By ordering online you will save 5 cents per gallon! There is also an automatic delivery option, making the process even easier.

Energy Efficient home new york

Save money this fall with these tips!

Summer gave way to fall pretty quickly here in Sullivan, northern Orange, and eastern Ulster counties.

If you haven’t had to turn on the heat in your home yet, you will soon. That may have you worrying about the prospect of higher energy costs.

We’re here to help! These five tips can help you keep your energy costs under control while not giving up any comfort.

Take good care of your heating system

Regular maintenance helps your furnace or boiler run at its best possible efficiency, so you’ll use less energy to keep your home warm. A tune-up also gives your service technician the opportunity to discover and repair problems before they lead to reduced efficiency, breakdowns, no-heat emergencies, and big repair bills.

Use your programmable thermostat

Your home’s programmable thermostat can help youcut your home’s heating costs by 10% or more. But you need to know how to set it to get the best efficiency. Follow these two easy directions.

Turn down the water heater

If your water heater is set to 140˚ Fahrenheit, as it often is, that is too high. It’s not energy efficient, but it’s also a safety risk. Water that hot can be scalding, and that’s especially dangerous for infants, children, and the elderly. Lower the setting to 120˚. Your water will still be hot, but you’ll cut your energy costs by up to 10%!

Use free, natural heating

Leave your curtains and blinds open during the day to take advantage of solar heating. Remember to close them at night to retain all that heat you brought in so you don’t have to run your furnace or boiler as much.

End heat loss

Did you know that the drafts around doors and windows, and through walls and ceilings in an average American home are the equivalent of leaving a window open? Stop sending money out the door (and windows) by using caulk, weatherstripping, and expanding foam to seal up those drafts. These simple projects can lower your heating costs up to 20%!

why heating oil new york

Heating oil has been keeping homes like yours here in Sullivan, northern Orange, and eastern Ulster counties warm, safe, and comfortable for close to 100 years!

Much has changed since then, including heating oil itself. But it still remains the best fuel for heating your home. Here are four reasons why.

Heating oil is efficient

Today’s oil heating systems have advanced in technology and efficiency that can help you save big on your energy costs. Efficiency ratings are as high as 95%, meaning that for every dollar you spend on heating oil, 95 cents of it goes right back into heating your home.

Heating oil today is vastly different than heating oil just a generation or two ago. Most heating oil delivered today is ultra-low-sulfur heating oil (ULSHO), which makes it much more efficient. For every gallon of heating oil burned, nearly 140,000 Btu’s of heat are produced. That’s the equivalent of about 70,000 60-watt light bulbs! And ULSHO is better for your heating system, because it leaves fewer deposits on the heat registers, creating less wear on the parts. That leads to fewer breakdowns, fewer big repair bills, and a longer life for today’s heating systems.

Heating oil is safe

Did you know that heating oil cannot burn in its liquid state? It must be vaporized by your oil burner at temperatures over 140˚ Fahrenheit for combustion to happen. It also can’t explode. Drop a lit match into heating oil, and it would be extinguished like if you’d dropped it into water. And safety devices in todays oil-fired home heating systems typically shut the furnace or boiler off in the event that the oil burner malfunctions. That greatly reduces the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Heating oil is cleaner

Today’s ultra-low sulfur heating oil produces almost zero particulate emissions. That means you are greatly reducing your home’s carbon footprint without have to sacrifice even a smidge of comfort! Thanks to ULSHO and the continued development of biofuels, the heating oil industry remains on track to reach its goal of net zero emissions by the year 2050.

Heating oil is abundant

You may be surprised to know that the United States is close to becoming a net exporter of oil and not a net importer. That’s because there has been a huge increase in domestic crude oil production over the last several years, with the objective of better control of oil prices. In fact, the majority of heating oil used in the U.S. is refined domestically.

5 things to consider before choosing

If you’ve recently purchased a home here in the Hudson Valley and Catskills regions, or if you’re not satisfied with your current heating oil company, you may be shopping around for a heating oil delivery service.

You have a lot to think about. This is a decision that affects the safety and comfort of your home.

We’re here to help with five things you should take into account when you choose your heating oil company.

The price isn’t always the top consideration

Saving money on your heating oil costs is great. But sometimes cheaper isn’t better.

Heating oil “discounters” may proclaim cheap heating oil prices to lure you in. But they can be a fly-by-night operator with no reliable heating oil supply so you can be assured you’ll have heating oil when you need it.

Our pricing is fair and transparent, with no surprise fees for credit card or check payments. However you pay, your price is the same as if you paid in cash.

Check the track record

Resnick Energy has been providing reliable, safe heating oil delivery to your neighbors for more than 20 years. If you know one of our customers, ask them about us! And look up our reviews online. We’re proud of the reputation we have established for dependability, quality, and service.

Quality counts

Heating oil discounters can’t be picky about the heating oil they buy for their customers. But Resnick Energy only delivers high-quality No. 2 heating oil and offer additives to protect your home heating system and heating oil tank.

Expect outstanding service

These discounters are very often one-person or small family operations. They may have as little as one truck for deliveries. If you need an emergency delivery of heating oil, they may not be able to get to you quickly, which can be dangerous in a cold snap. Resnick Energy, on the other hand, has 24/7 emergency heating oil delivery. Not just for our customers, but all our neighbors in our service area!

Look for pricing and payment options

With discounters, the only way you’re paying for your heating oil is in full upon delivery.

Resnick Energy offers several pricing and payment choices to help you best manage your heating oil costs. And if you order online or use Automatic Delivery, you get a 5-cents-per-gallon discount!

Why filling your tank now makes sense

A lot of your neighbors are procrastinators. They don’t schedule their delivery until they realize, oops, it’s getting cooler out! Then they all want their heating oil or propane NOW.

That creates a jam-packed delivery schedule, meaning it may take longer for us to get to you.

Here in the Hudson Valley and Catskills region, you can get cold snaps soon after the leaves start turning. If you haven’t filled your heating oil or propane tank, you may not have enough to keep your home warm. That means you’ll need an emergency delivery, and all the hassle and expense that come with that.

Oil Tank Sizes new york

Resnick Energy can help with that!

Heating oil tanks are designed and built to be pretty durable. But eventually, they do need to be replaced.

If your heating oil tank is more than 20 years old, it’s time to start planning to replace it. You don’t want to be surprised with a tank failure, and the hassle, mess, and expense that go with it.

Before you start shopping for your new heating oil tank, you need to do some homework.

The size of your heating oil tank

Two figures matter here: The capacity of your heating oil tank (measured in gallons) and the dimensions of the tank (height, length, and width).

Most newer tanks have the capacity on the nameplate. If yours doesn’t you’ll have to estimate using the dimensions.

A typical home heating oil tank size is 275 gallons and comes in either a vertical (275V) or horizontal (275H) orientation. There are other tank sizes, depending on it they are installed above ground or underground. Other common aboveground tanks are 288, 340, 420, 500, 550, 675, and 1,000 gallons. If you’re installing an underground tank, you can go even bigger.

Other things to know before you buy a heating oil tank

The most important thing to do is measure the space where your heating oil tank will go so you can be sure your new tank will fit.

As you are talking with equipment experts, discuss your heating oil needs now and in the future. If you plan on growing your family, or having older parents move in, you’ll be using more heating oil and may want to get a bigger tank.

Research heating oil tank providers. Make sure that they will install your tank meeting all regulations and codes, get any required permits, will handle disposing of your old heating oil tank, and will make you aware of any municipal or state fees for tank disposal.

And when you get your new heating oil tank, become a Resnick Energy customer for dependable heating oil delivery at a great price.

is heating oil best new york

Discover the benefits of heating oil!

Have you bought a home with heating oil? Congratulations!

While some may think that natural gas is a better option for heating your home, they’re wrong. You’ve got the best fuel choice.

Here are six ways that’s true.

Heating oil burns hotter

How much hotter does heating oil burn than natural gas? You’ll be surprised. It burns 300˚ hotter!

Why is that important? Think about how cold it can get here in the Hudson Valley and Catskills regions. When you come in from that cold, you want your home to be warm fast. With that hotter burning, heating oil will have your home warm way faster than natural gas!

Heating oil is abundant

Natural gas demand can be greater than the natural gas supply during the winter. But that rarely happens with heating oil!

Heating oil is there for you

When you use natural gas to heat your home, you are dependent on a utility’s distribution system. If something happens to a gas line or gas main elsewhere in your community, you’ll be without heat until it’s repaired. But your heating oil is stored right there at your home, so you have no worries.

Heating oil is a great deal

When you adjust for inflation, today’s heating oil prices are about the same as they were in the mid-1970s, making heating oil a bargain source of home heat. Although natural gas can be cheaper for an equivalent volume of fuel, it doesn’t provide as much heat per dollar as heating oil, as we mentioned above.

Heating oil is more eco-friendly

The heating oil of today is not the heating oil of your parents’ or grandparents’ time. Today’s ultra-low sulfur heating oil (ULSHO) burns 95 percent cleaner than heating oil did 50 years ago.

Heating oil is safe

Heating oil is harmless at room temperature. Drop a lit match into the heating oil in your tank and it will go out just like it would in water. Heating oil must be heated to 140 degrees and vaporized in order to burn. And, unlike natural gas, heating oil won’t explode.

Resnick Energy is a leader in providing reliable heating oil delivery and competitive pricing to homes and businesses in our area. Become a customer today!
